I know it's always exclaimed but...

What the hell is up with gas prices? Okay, sure, every year people bitch when the price of gas goes up, but over the years that increase has been limited to maybe 5 cents each year. I had no qualms about that. I kow the oil industry is a bit corrupt and will continue to suck us dry. I could live with that rate of inflation. In the past year, however, prices have gone up 35 cents. Our lifestyles cannot sustain this continued increase. People complain that we're too dependent on oil, but it's not like we can change that over night.

Seriously, what is going to happen? Are we going to have to give up all of our extracurricular actitivies, start taking hour-plus bus rides to work, give up our entertainment to use it for gas money instead?

I was just going to post about this, although not quite as grim. But the Esso near us, just now, has posted a record price of 99.9 cents per litre. They only have three slots on their big price board so I don't know what they will do if they want it to go over a dollar -- maybe they'll have to make a big cardboard "$1" and stick it to the front of the sign!

Apparently some gas stations in Montreal that have only 3 slots have started giving their prices by the half-litre.

In Halifax, gas is well over a dollar already.

In Victoria, the prices were over $1.10 already back in May.

Here too...

I think it was less than a year ago that people in the Bay Area were freaking out that gas might rise as high as $2 a gallon. Now we don't think twice about paying over $2.50, and today for the first time I saw gas at over $3 gallon. That's 50% in less than a year...

Now I'm sure no one wonders why used hybrids are selling at above list price!
